The EQ Lab for Youth

Session One:
Welcome to The EQ Lab

Objective: Introduce participants to the group, establish guidelines, and explore the concept of emotional intelligence.

Activities:

  • Icebreaker activity: "Your Emotional Playlist" (share a song that reflects your current mood).

  • Overview of EQ and its importance.

  • Agreements and expectations.

Takeaway: Understanding EQ and how it impacts daily life.

Session Two:
Mapping Your Inner World (Self-Awareness)

Objective: Build self-awareness by identifying emotions and understanding their triggers.

Activities:

  • Guided mindfulness exercise: "Noticing Your Emotions."

  • "Emotion Mapping" activity: chart emotions throughout the day.

  • Discussion: "What Do My Emotions Tell Me?"

Takeaway: Recognizing and naming emotions as the first step to emotional intelligence.

Session Three:
The Pause Button (Emotional Regulation)

Objective: Teach strategies to manage and regulate emotions effectively.

Activities:

  • "Calm in the Chaos" breathing exercise.

  • Interactive role-play: managing challenging emotional scenarios.

  • Reflection: what works for emotional regulation?

Takeaway: Practical tools for staying calm and focused under pressure.

Session Four:
Walking in Their Shoes (Empathy)

Objective: Enhance empathy by understanding and validating others’ emotions.

Activities:

  • Empathy-building exercise: "Alternative Perspectives."

  • Reflection: "A Time I Felt Seen."

  • Role-play: responding empathetically in different scenarios.

Takeaway: The power of empathy in strengthening relationships.

Session Five:
The Art of Connection (Social Skills)

Objective: Develop communication and conflict resolution skills.

Activities:

  • "Active Listening" practice.

  • Communication game: "Say It Clearly."

  • Conflict resolution scenario analysis.

Takeaway: Building meaningful connections through effective communication.

Session Six:
Decisions that Matter (Responsible Decision-Making)

Objective: Cultivate critical thinking and decision-making skills.

Activities:

  • "The Decision Tree" activity: exploring consequences of choices.

  • Discussion: "What Guides My Decisions?"

  • Case study analysis: applying decision-making frameworks.

Takeaway: Making informed, value-aligned choices.

Session Seven:
Building Resilience (Bouncing Back)

Objective: Foster resilience to overcome setbacks and adapt to challenges.

Activities:

  • "My Resilience Story" journaling exercise.

  • Brainstorm: "Resilience Strategies That Work."

  • Visualization activity: "The Mountain of Growth."

Takeaway: Strengthening the ability to bounce back from adversity.

Session Eight:
The EQ Toolbox (Integration and Celebration)

Objective: Reflect on growth, integrate skills, and celebrate accomplishments.

Activities:

  • Reflection: "What I’ve Learned About Myself."

  • Create a personalized EQ toolbox.

  • Closing celebration: "Highlights of the Journey."

Takeaway: A comprehensive EQ toolkit for navigating life’s challenges.

Structure & Cost

Format: 8 Weekly 50 min sessions via a secure online platform. 

Cost: $170 plus tax per session. 20% discount applied if more than 1 youth joins together. 

Extended benefits receipts provided.

Outcome

​Participants will leave The EQ Lab for Youth with enhanced emotional intelligence skills, improved self-confidence, and practical tools to thrive in relationships, school, and personal life.
